#7 Put Not Off Your Clothes in the Presence of Others

RulesEsquire magazine has a hilarious new article online by an author who attempts to live his life by the 110 maxims of the “Rules of Civility” that George Washington copied as a young boy. Our personal favorite is, “Kill no Vermin as Fleas, lice ticks &c in the Sight of Others, if you See any filth or thick Spittle put your foot Dexterously upon it if it be upon the Cloths of your Companions, Put it off privately, and if it be upon your own Cloths return Thanks to him who puts it off.” Take a look at the Rules here and leave a comment letting us know which is your favorite. Portraits in Schools

Kids holding George Washington Portrait

Mount Vernon recently invited K-12 schools nationwide to request framed portraits of George Washington to display in a respectful, prominent place.

The response was overwhelming: thousands of schools submitted letters! Along with the portrait, schools received curriculum materials to help explore our first president’s contributions.
